Jay Boy Adams & Zenobia with The Friends and Guests

  • Odeon Theater 122 Moody Street Mason, TX, 76856 United States (map)

The Odeon is delighted to welcome back favorite performers Jay Boy Adams and Zenobia, accompanied by The Friends and Guests. The duo met in Santa Fe, NM, and from there went to Texas, NYC, Nashville, Europe, and beyond, drawing rave reviews for their unique blend of slide guitar, keyboards and harmonies.

Jay Boy Adams’ music has always represented a resonant mixture of country, rock and blues, while remaining steeped in tradition. A native of Colorado City, Texas, Adams grew up with the same influences that fueled the music of Joe Ely, Jimmie Dale Gilmore, Terry Allen and Butch Hancock, all of whom hailed from nearby Lubbock. He spent a number of years honing his craft playing in bands in Houston and then in Midland with noted bluesman Johnny Heartsman. In 1972, Adams landed an opening slot in Lubbock for ZZ Top, which led to four years on the road with the band, and another six, sharing concert bills with such artists as The Allman Brothers Band, Joe Cocker, Jackson Browne, Marshall Tucker Band, Bonnie Raitt, The Kinks and many others.

His 2007 release of The Shoe Box ended up as the #7 Americana album of the year and also spawned an extensive tour as special guest for the legendary Stephen Stills, not only opening the show, but also playing some guitar and singing back-up vocals as part of Stills’ band.

Songwriter and recording artist Zenobia began her singing career in her church choir in Los Angeles where she taught herself to play the piano at 5 years old and wrote her first song at 8. After winning local talent shows and awards in acting, at 18, she debuted in the LA company of the rock musical, HAiR, then was sent to New York to join the original Broadway company. While in HAiR, Zenobia became a studio singer on recording sessions and live gigs.

She’s worked with producers Genghis of Atlantic Records and Eddie Kramer on Jobriath and JF Murphy and Salt and other recording artists: Jane Olivor, Julie Budd, Gene Pitney, Keith Avedon, Tommy Mandel and James Blood Ulmer. Recording artists Leon Ware(Elektra), The Ritchie Family(RCA) and Platinum Hook(Motown) have recorded her songs. Some of her co-writers have been with Carol Bayer Sager, Marti Sharron, Denise Rich and James (D-Train) Williams. Besides the piano, she also plays guitar, Harmonium, D’jembe drum and other percussive instruments and is a vocal arranger.

Tickets are $25 per person if purchased in advance and $30 at the door. Tickets may be purchased below or call 325 347 6781 for reservations and information. Please note, tickets are NOT issued. Your name will appear on the WILL CALL list at the door.
