Monte Warden and the Dangerous Few

  • Odeon Theater 122 Moody Street Mason, TX, 76856 United States (map)

Monte Warden has been a loved fixture on the Austin, Texas, music scene since he was a teen. At 15, he started playing local honky-tonks and his rockabilly-influenced trio, Whoa Trigger!, won Best New Band at the 1983 Austin Music Awards. He then found an international following with the Wagoneers, who won the same award in 1987 and became a “young country” favorite with two albums on A&M, Stout & High and Good Fortune. His first solo album (self-titled) appeared in July of 1993, and the follow-up, Here I Am, was released in July 1995. A Stranger to Me Now followed in 1999.

After the Wagoneers disbanded, Monte had a songwriting hit with George Strait’s superb rendition of “Desperately,” for which Monte received a Million Air Award from BMI for co-writing the song with Bruce Robison. After reuniting with the Wagoneers in 2011 for their Texas Music Hall of Fame induction, Monte, who was already inducted as a solo artist, realized he’d been missing the stage. He’s been delivering shows regularly with the Wagoneers since 2011 and with the Dangerous Few since 2016.

Monte Warden and The Dangerous Few was formed by Monte in 2016 to explore a jazz-influenced, classic crooner sound. The Dangerous Few performs all original songs written by Monte. Co-writers of the band's material include Brandi Warden, Floyd Domino, Jeff Franzel, and Bruce Brody. Stylistic influences cited by Monte for the sound include Jim Reeves, Frank  Sinatra, Tony Bennett and Ray Price; he has cited Johnny Mercer, Harold Arlen, and Burt Bacharach as chief songwriting influences. The band members are Monte Warden (vocals, guitar), Mas Palermo (drums), Brent Wilson (bass), Erik Telford (horns), and T Jarrod Bonta (piano).
