Walt Wilkins, Josh Grider & Drew Kennedy

  • Odeon Theater 122 Moody Street Mason, TX, 76856 United States (map)

concert is sold out.

The Odeon is excited to welcome Walt Wilkins, Josh Grider and Drew Kennedy, performing together following their appearance at the 12th annual Red River Songwriters’ Festival in northern New Mexico. The three singer-songwriters are among the founders of the annual three-day event that celebrates song and the power of storytelling through music, drawing talented songwriters, and music enthusiasts, from across the country.

A near constant presence on the Texas Music Chart since its inception, San Antonio-born Walt Wilkins has been called a genius, more than once. Wilkins' work has been likened to the greatest and most timeless of the Texas/American troubadours But, as a songwriter, it's the John Steinbeck comparison that means the most. His crafting of story-songs, hard-edged vocals to sing them and a plaintive guitar have made him a fixture of the Texas music scene (and Nashville before that). He’s put his magical touch on recordings by new and veteran artists, too many to count. He has over 100 songs recorded by other artists and has released eight solo records, including four with his band The Mystiqueros, and one with his singer-songwriter wife, Tina.

Josh Grider, the Texas-by-way-of-New-Mexico artist, is equally at ease with burnished ballads and steady-rolling melodies, specializing in a laid-back touch. That comfortable sound was showcased on the independent records that earned him a regional following in the 2010s. His mix of traditional and modern influences has combined to create a compendium of songs that range from ethereal and pensive, to light-hearted and downright funny. He's a thinking man's writer with an incredible baritone voice that delivers lyrics directly to his listener’s soul. “A poet of optimism and maturity,” according to Lonestar Music magazine, his songwriting prowess is in high demand and as he approaches two decades in the industry, Josh is also jumping into the world of production.

By all accounts, Drew Kennedy is a songwriter full of heart. A south central Pennsylvania native, Drew didn’t start playing music until college. Now, one of the most highly regarded songwriters in the country, he released his ninth studio album, Marathon, in 2022. He has spent most of the last ten years immersed in collaboration. In addition to writing with his fellow Red River Songwriters, he has working tirelessly to make a name for himself among the publishing houses of Nashville’s Music Row. Working with some of country music’s most revered songwriters, he co-wrote, for instance, “Peace & Quiet” with the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band’s Jeff Hanna and Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame member Matraca Berg.
