Classic Movie - The Wizard of Oz

Fantasy/Adventure ‧ 1h 52m

Classic Movie Night is free to the public and gives families the opportunity to watch together some of the greatest movies ever made. Relive your favorite films the way they were meant to be seen.

The Wizard of Oz, originally released in 1939, is the third movie shown in the Odeon’s new classic movie series. The film has become an icon of American popular culture. It was nominated for six Academy Awards, including Best Picture, but lost to Gone with the Wind. It did win in two other categories: Best Original Song for "Over the Rainbow" and Best Original Score by Herbert Stothart. It is rated the American Film Institute’s # 6 Best American Movies of all times.

Admission is free but donations will be accepted to cover licensing fees.

When a tornado rips through Kansas, Dorothy (Judy Garland) and her dog, Toto, are whisked away in their house to the magical land of Oz. They follow the Yellow Brick Road toward the Emerald City to meet the Wizard, and en route they meet a Scarecrow (Ray Bolger) that needs a brain, a Tin Man (Jack Haley) missing a heart, and a Cowardly Lion (Bert Lahr) who wants courage. The wizard asks the group to bring him the broom of the Wicked Witch of the West (Margaret Hamilton) to earn his help.
