Noir/Thriller ‧ 1h 32m ‧ 1955
Come celebrate Halloween at a special Classic Movie Night showing on Oct. 30, as we present The Night of the Hunter, directed by Charles Laughton and starring Robert Mitchum. This 1955 classic thriller, which tells the story of a serial killer, is considered one of the greatest films ever made. It was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry in 1992, and the influential French film magazine Cahiers du Cinema selected The Night of the Hunter as the second-best film of all time, behind Citizen Kane.
In the film, the Rev. Harry Powell (Mitchum) is a religious fanatic and serial killer who targets women who use their sexuality to attract men. Serving time in prison for car theft, he meets condemned murderer Ben Harper (Peter Graves), who confesses to hiding $10,000 in stolen loot. Released from jail, Powell is obsessed with finding the money, and he tracks down Harper's widow, Willa (Shelley Winters), and her two children, John (Billy Chapin) and Pearl (Sally Jane Bruce).
Admission to Classic Movie Night is always free but we appreciate your donations, which enable us to continue offering these special movie presentations.
