Classic Movie - The Third Man

  • Odeon Theater 122 Moody Street Mason, TX, 76856 United States (map)

Noir/Thriller ‧ 1h 33m ‧ 1949

The November 20 free Classic Movie Night at the Odeon Theater features The Third Man, a 1949 British film noir directed by Carol Reed, written by Graham Greene, and starring Joseph Cotten, Alida Valli, Orson Welles and Trevor Howard.

The award-winning film is celebrated for its acting, musical score and atmospheric cinematography. It was nominated for three Academy Awards, winning “Best Cinematography – Black & White” and was voted “Best Film” by the British Film Awards. In 1999, the British Film Institute voted The Third Man the greatest British film of all time.

Set in postwar Vienna, Austria, The Third Man stars Joseph Cotten as Holly Martins, a writer of pulp Westerns, who arrives penniless as a guest of his childhood chum Harry Lime (Orson Welles), only to find him dead. Martins develops a conspiracy theory after learning of a "third man" present at the time of Harry's death, running into interference from British officer Maj. Calloway (Trevor Howard) and falling head-over-heels for Harry's grief-stricken lover, Anna (Alida Valli).

Admission is free. Donations are appreciated.

The Odeon’s Classic Movie Night is the third Wednesday of each month. Admission is always free but we appreciate your donations, which enable us to continue offering these special movie presentations.

If you’re interested in sponsoring your favorite Classic Movie* by underwriting the licensing fee (typically $50 to $250 depending on the film) in part or whole, please email us at notify@theodeontheater.com.
