Drama/Romance/War ‧ 2h 50m ‧ 1946
Please note: Special starting time 6:30 pm
The November Classic Movie Night features the 1946 film The Best Years of Our Lives, which stars Myrna Loy, Dana Andrews and Fredric March. The movie won seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Actor in a Leading Role, Best Actor in a Supporting Role and Best Director, as well as Best Picture at the Golden Globes. At the time, it was the highest grossing film in the U.S. since the release of Gone with the Wind.
The movie tells the story of three World War II veterans, two of them traumatized or disabled, who return home to the American Midwest to discover that they and their families have been irreparably changed as they re-adjust to societal changes and civilian life.
In 1989, The Best Years of Our Lives was one of the first 25 films selected by the Library of Congress for preservation in the United States National Film Registry for being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant." It is also included on the American Film Institute’s “100 Greatest American Movies of All Time.”
The Odeon’s Classic Movie Night is the third Wednesday of each month. Admission is always free but we appreciate your donations, which enable us to continue offering these special movie presentations.
If you’re interested in sponsoring your favorite Classic Movie* by underwriting the licensing fee (typically $50 to $250 depending on the film) in part or whole, please email us at notify@theodeontheater.com.
