April’s free Classic Movie Night is a double feature with two Mel Brooks classic comedies: 1967’s The Producers, starring Zero Mostel and Gene Wilder, and Blazing Saddles, the 1974 irreverent comedy featuring Cleavon Little, Gene Wilder and Slim Pickens. Come for both, or just one. The Producers starts at 6:30 pm and Blazing Saddles about 8:00 pm.
In The Producers, down-on-his-luck theatrical producer Max Bialystock (Zero Mostel) is forced to romance rich old ladies to finance his efforts. When timid accountant Leo Bloom (Gene Wilder) reviews Max's accounting books, the two hit upon a way to make a fortune by producing a sure-fire flop. The play which is to be their gold mine? "Springtime for Hitler."
Blazing Saddles is “The Ultimate Western Spoof.” A town where everyone seems to be named Johnson is in the way of the railroad. In order to grab their land, Hedley Lemar (Harvey Keitel), a politically connected nasty person, sends in his henchmen to make the town unlivable. After the sheriff is killed, the town demands a new sheriff from the Governor (Mel Brooks). Hedley convinces him to send the town the first Black sheriff (Cleavon Little) in the west. Bart is a sophisticated urbanite who will have some difficulty winning over the townspeople.
The April Classic Movie double feature is sponsored by Paula & Glenn Lindquist.
