Comedy/Musical/Romance ‧ 1h 43m ‧ 1936
The February free Classic Movie Night features the classic 1936 romantic comedy Swing Time, starring Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. Although the movie is remembered as one of the great dance musicals – with four dance routines that are regarded as masterpieces -- it also boasts one of the best film scores of the 1930s. The film won the 1937 Academy Award for Best Original Song with “The Way You Look Tonight,” and it is included on the American Film Institute’s “100 Years...100 Movies” list. In 2004 it was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.”
Set mainly in New York City, the film follows gambler and dancer "Lucky" (Astaire). Engaged to the pretty Margaret Watson (Betty Furness), Lucky gets pre-wedding nerves, which leads to the ceremony being called off. Margaret's father decides that Lucky can have a second chance at marrying her if he can make $25,000, so he heads to New York City to seek his fortune. When Lucky meets the beautiful dance teacher Penny Carroll (Rogers), however, his priorities soon change.
The February classic movie is sponsored by Wildflowers, 855 San Antonio St., Mason.
