In the spirit of Mason’s annual “Round Up” celebrations, the July Classic Movie Night features the 1976 western classic, The Shootist, starring John Wayne is his last film appearance. The all-star cast also includes Lauren Bacall, Ron Howard, James Stewart, Richard Boone, John Carradine, Scatman Crothers, Harry Morgan and Hugh O’Brien.
Recognized by the National Board of Review as one of the Top Ten Films of 1976, the movie tells the story of J. B. Books, the last of the legendary gunfighters. Books is afflicted with a terminal illness and quietly returns to Carson City for medical attention. Aware that his days are numbered, the troubled man seeks solace and peace in a boarding house run by a widow and her son. However, it is not Books' fate to die in peace, as he becomes embroiled in one last valiant battle.
