Local music fans have eagerly awaited the return of multi-time AMA winner and Austin music icon, Guy Forsyth, to the Odeon Theater. Praised as “simply one of the best performing musicians around,” Guy and his blues band — with Texas tried and true vets Naj Conklin on bass, Mark Hays on drums, George Rarey on lead guitar and Nevada Newman on guitar — come together to create a powerhouse of sound that leaves the audience dancing and their faith in the power of live music restored.
Guy cut his teeth in the blues, sneaking into Kansas City Blues clubs before he was old enough to drink. Playing slide guitar and harmonica in both acoustic and electric styles, he is a musician’s musician, turning almost anything into an instrument and captivating the audience’s attention. Vocally he is mesmerizing. His repertoire incorporates elements of blues and Americana traditions, with trace elements of rock, R&B, folk, jazz and pop, having been inspired by the great voices of American performing legends.
Today he has played around the world, made 20 records, won many awards, including the Austin Male Vocalist of the Year Award, and helped define Austin music. Guy is a one-of-a-kind original. He not only writes and sings his own songs, but he enjoys telling the stories behind their inspiration. He is a modern American Songster. While each song is different, they all share the same care and craftsmanship.
