The Brazosport Big Band (BBB) is thrilled to escape the Gulf Coast humidity and mosquitoes on their first road trip to share their music with the fine folks of Mason on August 9 at 7 pm at The Odeon.
The BBB is an 18-member big band comprised of music educators and professional musicians from southern Brazoria County. The group began in 2014 performing once a month at the Wurst Haus in downtown Lake Jackson at the corner of This Way and That Way. In addition, the BBB has performed for the Angleton Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Banquet and the City of Lake Jackson’s Summer Concert Series. The BBB released the album “Birkland” in 2019 featuring original compositions and arrangements by trombonist Richard Birk, who is the son of Mason residents Ron and Alberta Birk.
In their 90+ performances, the BBB draws from a repertoire of over 300 songs including classics from the great big bands of Glen Miller, Count Basie, and Duke Ellington as well as the more recent big bands of Buddy Rich, Woody Herman, Stan Kenton, Maynard Ferguson, and the Gordon Goodwin Big Phat Band.
The BBB’s performance is sponsored by Ron & Alberta Birk in celebration of their 70th Anniversary. All ticket sales go to support the Odeon Preservation Association.
